What is the Bathurst Winter Festival?
The Bathurst Winter Festival is a two week event during the July school holidays which embraces the magic of Bathurst’s winter. The McDonald's Bathurst Ice Rink and giant ferris wheel will operate every day of the 16 day festival and iconic buildings will be illuminated every night from dusk. Ignite the Night and Brew & Bite are the stand out events during the festival running on the first and second Saturday.
What events are on during the Bathurst Winter Festival?
The festival runs for two weeks; with the McDonald’s Bathurst Ice Rink and giant ferris wheel operating every day. There are also two festival nights; Ignite the Night and Brew & Bite on held on the first two Saturdays respectively.
Do I need to purchase tickets for the event?
Entry into the festival is free
The illumination installations are free
Tickets for the rink start at $5 and pre-purchasing your ticket is encouraged
Tickets for the ferris wheel and House of Mirrors are $5 per person and can be purchased on the day
Where can I see the illuminations?
Key buildings in Bathurst’s CBD are lit up each night of the festival. The buildings illuminated this year includes the Bathurst Court House, Court House Lane, the Fernery in Machattie Park, the Cathedral of St Michael & St John and will also include installations in Machattie Park.
How long are the illuminations on?
Every night during the 16 day festival from dusk until 10 pm.
How do I buy tickets for the ice rink?
Tickets are available online now. Tickets may also be purchased from the onsite box office, providing sessions are still available. Tickets are on sale now.
How much do tickets cost?
Children (2-14) are $5 each and adults (15 and over) are $10 each.
What time is the ice rink operating to?
The McDonald's Bathurst Ice Rink is open every day of the festival from 9am to 9pm.
How long do sessions last?
All sessions start on the hour and run for 45 minutes.
What happens if the weather is bad and it rains or snows?
The rink can operate in nearly all weather conditions. Please bring suitable outdoor clothing. This is an outdoor event and no refunds will be given due to inclement weather. In the unlikely event that the duty manager deems it necessary to close the ice rink, alternative sessions will be offered for skating, subject to availability. Notification will be provided via Bathurst Regional Council Events Facebook page.
How many people can skate on the ice rink?
The ice rink is 18m x 30m with a capacity of 150 skaters.
Are there any skating aids available for my child?
Yes, however there are a limited amount per session. You can purchase them for $5 each when you buy your ticket
When are the festival nights?
Ignite the Night and Brew and Bite will be held on the first and second Saturday respectively during the July School Holidays.
Where do the festival nights take place?
Both festivals take place in Kings Parade (Russell Street) from midday to 9pm.
Where can I park my car?
Parking is available is surrounding CBD streets and the RSL carpark.
What disabled access is available?
The festival is designed to include everyone in the community. Details for the 2018 Bathurst Winter Festival are to be confirmed.
Are there ATM’s available?
There are no ATM’s inside the festival precinct, however there are multiple ATM facilities within the surrounding CBD.
What should I bring along with me?
Warm clothes. If you have last year’s festival cup, bring that too, or you can purchase a new one at the festival for $3 each.
What happens if the weather is bad and it is raining or snowing?
The festival nights will go ahead even if it is raining. The event will only be cancelled if exceptionally severe weather makes the venue unsafe. In the event of bad weather, keep an eye on the Bathurst Regional Council Events Facebook page for information.
How much heating is available at the festival nights?
The festival is held outdoors with little to no cover and minimal heating. You are encouraged to wear plenty of layers to keep wear outdoors.
Can I bring my own picnic rug or chairs?
Yes, however the ground can be very damp.
What is the difference between Ignite the Night and Brew and Bite?
The festival nights feature different line ups of entertainment, food and beverage.
